A crossbow is not a hard project to build. When I was a child my father converted a broken wood bow into a crossbow for me. I don't remember the trigger but the stock was made out of 2x4 and cut to look like a gun stock. If you would rather follow a proven model, plans to make a crossbow are almost always availible from sellers on Ebay.
