The Predator AVI is Barnett's high end crossbow. It is a radical new crossbow, much different from anything Barnett has built before. The limbs are built by Barnsdale, whose limbs are found in many of todays highest end compound bows and have the reputation for being the strongest limbs availible. Barnett has actually run extensive dryfire testing on the Predator AVI crossbow limbs, amazingly they have withstood repeated dryfires intact with no splintering or breakage! Like all the limbs in Barnett's AVI series crossbows the limbs on the Predator are encased with a rubber material. This is designed to decrease the noise from the Predator crossbow when shot.

The Predator AVI carries a speed rating of 375 fps from its 175 lb limbs. To acheive this speed Barnett has designed the Predator with an unique shoot-through foot stirrup which increases the power stroke by several inches.

Another great improvement evident in the Predator AVI is a much better trigger then past Barnett models. It is crisp and clean with little creep.

It had been several years since we had carried any Barnett products in my archery proshop. We had stopped selling them because the quality was always dissapointing and they never seemed to be durable enough for the average hunter. Well, I am pleased to say those days are over. Barnett has come under new ownership which has decided to invest in the company wide makeover that was desperatly needed. The Predator AVI crossbow is a fruit of that investment. In the past Barnett claimed speeds for their crossbows that we could not even come close to duplicating in our shop. When shot with the Easton bolt included in the Predator crossbow package both test crossbows clocked consistantly in the 360's fps. This is a bit short of the advertised 375, however the Easton bolt is on the heavy side. There are many other carbon bolts availible that are lighter and I have no doubt would clock 375 fps. My guess is that Barnett worked a deal with Easton to be their bolt supplier after giving the 375 rating. Barnett still warrants the Predator AVI when shot with lighter bolts so I think they are well within their rights to give the 375 fps rating. At this time there is no widely accepted rating standard for crossbow speeds as exists in the compound bow industry.
